The head of the Sovereign Council in Sudan, Lieutenant-General Abdel Fattah Al-Burhan, said that he will not run in the upcoming elections, but he did not provide a timetable on when the elections will be held and the relinquishment of power.

In response to the Associated Press’s question, if he was considering running in the upcoming elections, he said, “I don’t think so, I have no desire to stand (as a candidate), and I do not want to continue with this work.”

Al-Burhan said that while neither the police nor the security forces have been convicted of the protesters’ deaths, about five or six are being investigated, and added, “No one was killed in the way that is depicted (…) the demonstrators clashed with the police, and the police dealt with them according to the law to protect property. The public,” Al-Burhan continued: Once an elected government is formed, the armed forces will be just another institution for that government instead of maintaining a higher position.

According to Al-Sahha, he denied the existence of any differences with the Vice-President of the Sovereign Council, Lieutenant-General Mohamed Hamdan Dagalo, “Hemedti,” and blamed countries and institutions he did not name as being behind the deterioration of the economic situation in Sudan.
